The magic of Eights Week begun this past Friday, 20 May, with Rowing On. Rowing On is a time trial race for those boats not yet in the “fixed divisions” of Summer Eights. Jesus fielded two crews: the Women’s Second Eight, and a Men’s Fourth Eight – more commonly refereed to as the Vikings. Sadly, there were not enough women to field a Women’s Third Eight, a.k.a. the Valkyries.

The women posted a strong time, meaning they maintained their spot near the top of the first Rowing On division. They only require two bumps to get into the fixed divisions for next year.

The Vikings were formed of a completely scratch crew of a who’s who of past, present, and “I have exams during Eights” Jesus College Rowers. Despite this, the Vikings managed to squeak into Summer Eights as the 25th out of the 27 crews to qualify.

In total, Jesus will be sending 6 crews into the bumping wilderness of Eights week. The next set of races will be on Wednesday, 25 May. Below are the times of all of the Jesus Crews:

Women:
W1: 5:15 pm (Women’s Div II, bung line #3, chasing Oriel)
W2: 1:45 pm (Women’s Div V, bung line #2, chasing GTC II)

Men:
M1: 5:45 pm (Men’s Div II, bung line #7, chasing Lincoln)
M2: 3:40 pm (Men’s Div IV, bung line #4, chasing Keble II)
M3: 2:20 pm (Men’s Div V, bung line #8, chasing Pembroke III)
Vikings: 12:00 pm (Men’s Div VII, bung line #3, chasing Keble IV)

See you at the boat house!
