The senior men entered their first regatta of the year, Autumn 4s this past Sunday, Nov 15th. The format of Autumn 4s is a side-by-side elimination race on the same course used for the Nephthys Regatta and Christ Church Regatta.
Coach Danko put together two “bold” entries: an A boat consisting of the four strongest men, and a B boat consisting technically strong men. Both crews warmed up together for their first races, held only 8 minutes apart.
The A boat faced off against Lady Margaret Hall in their first elimination race. As a club, we felt confident for this race, however we were unsure of what LMH would bring to the table. As it faired, LMH contained a number of school-boy rowers and were able to just eliminate the A boat in the first round by a length.
The B boat had much better luck with the draw, and were paired with Keble D for their first race. Beating them by 1 and 1/2 lengths, they were confident going into their biggest challenge of the day: Wolfson A. Wolfson crews are known for their technical prowess on the water, and they delivered a 4 length loss to our B boat. However, the B crew had many good moments to take away from Autumn 4s, and left the Isis Sunday knowing that they can, and are determined to, be the fastest boat on the water.
